    I have a DIY canopy with the light fixture attached to the lid, no glass under the light.

    I have a seriously bulky hood, and I don't mind it at all.

    I can't imagine going open top, though, with the salt creep and everything.

    What do you mean by hood?

    I have been leaning towards a canopy with a retrofit attached. Wavepoint 4x24w T5HO.

    It's very close to the normal "hood" you'd see coming with a FW aquarium kit @ PetCo, in that the front folds up. This one is kinda built for the tank, since it's an AIO, but I'd like to use something similar on any future tanks, and I'd build it if it wasn't available. It's a hood since there's no extra room between it and the top of the tank, unlike a canopy, where there's a big open air area.

    Heh, yeah, I guess. But it's a pretty awesome hood, IMO. Heavy enough where no fish is gonna get out, small area for air so the likelihood of a snail frying on the lens is slim, tight fit, locks into 4 different positions...

    Open top for me or at least partially open top

    the big worry is jumpers, if you think you have a canopy and place your jumper on it, it falls in the water and gets wet
