I was given a 90 gallon tank (free upgrade) that had a small leak no big deal took bottom glass out cleaned and re silicone. Its been 4 months everything great. Today i was cleaning my workbench off and just so happen to read the back of the tube of aquarium sealant i used and saw an the very bottom that it was not for tanks bigger than 20 or 30 gallons and or deeper than 18 inches. what is that crap, guess its too late now hope it holds.:worried: I can see this not ending well.

Did some research for you and by the sound of it you have nothing to worry about. Check out this site:

Aquarium (and Pond) Answers: Aquarium Silicone

Nowhere in that article does it even mention silicon strength being different for different sized aquariums. It only mentions that aquarium specific silicon is made to cure slower and that you need to make sure its 100% silicon your using.

I would guess the company that made the stuff you used was trying to limit liability by specializing there product for a tank that is less likely to break and flood an entire house.

I dont know much about this though so dont take my opinion for fact. (hehe gotta limit my liability)

Its for product liability purposes its fine and the very same stuff all are made with . This way if it would ever blow out then you can't sue them.. But sooner or later they all blow out.;D

I would think either this OR they make one for "bigger tanks" and are just trying to capitalize on two "different" uses from one product.

    +1

In my industry we sell products all the time that are the same in everyway, standard business practice it seems. Get whatever you can from the customer. ;D

Thanks for putting me at ease. I kinda was thinking the same thing about the liability issues. Ive been doing this aquarium stuff since third grade and it seems that no matter how much experience you have there is alway something that gets overlooked. But its got to be one of the best hobbys.

i agree with the "specialty" type things being sold different but really all the same. we have a friend whos a "goop' salesman. general goop, water goop , sealant good etc. told us , theyre all the same, we just have different labels and types. but all will work for whatever you want it for. so by the sounds of it , youre all good.
