can i ask a dumb ? how do u know when the cycle os over and i need to do a water change

 

Another thing you can do is slowly add new live rock while at the same time slowly remove the existing substrate. Add a decent sized piece or two per week while removing about 10% of the substrate per week. Monitor your parameters, but you want to get to the point where you've got the live rock handling the filtration. At that point you can add the new sand and you're good to go.

One note is that I would definitely get a skimmer asap.

 

ok thanks i found a used one at the at the pet store near buy that i am prob. going to get tomorrow or tuesday and then i want to wait till my rock i ordered gets here and i am going to tear into my tank i have anoter tank set up for my fish that i have now i just hopes that its big enough to handle the fish till the other tank cycle
