Ok, so I thought all was good. 4 weeks in and the cycle has happened and im letting the tank mature before any livestock is added.

This morning I noticed a couple of copepods on the glass. Great I thought, more life!! This is a good thing! I went back about 2 hours later, and hundreds had appeared on the glass... Its been about 5 hours since I saw the first one, and now its getting serious. I cant even clean the front glass without performing genocide. Is this normal? Should I wipe them away? Do they wanna be friends or are they up to no good in these numbers?

    Heres a sample

They should be fine. Looks like they're just munching away at the crud on your glass.
I would just leave them unless you really need to scrape your glass.
    Great for fish food tho.

that is great! Once you add fish they will start to eat the pods! Now is the fun part...go at night with a flashlight and see what all you can find. I love looking at my tanks at night! (Fun Saturday night at my house) LOL

That is really good if you plan on keeping a mandarin goby.

unfortunatly not, its a 10G tank and dont think I could keep up the growing of these guys if the goby is really hungry!

LOL. Fear not my friend. These critters are completely harmless and will help keep your live rock and substrate clean. And in your case, the glass too. Once your tank is mature your tank will find a balance and between your fish eating them and the algae diminishing. You really should take a red lens flash light and go pod watching at night! It will amaze you how many MORE there really are. lol.

their population explodes on film algae, they like micro algae. once that dies back their numbers are reduced.

Also, they are a good indicator of a healthy tank! So, good job!

Even better, if you can find a headlamp or flashlight with red LEDs... (bought mine at WalMart or Target for about $15) Everything won't retract or hide so much, and you can really get a different view on your tank.
