Way back in the day (4 months ago) when i started this hobby I went to the LFS with a friend and on the counter was a baby octopus. At the time I had less than 5 gallons of tank running, with no livestock. I was looking at the pistol shrimp in the container next to the octopus, and the guy actually tried to sell me the octopus even after I told him my tank was 5 gallons.

"You can keep a better eye on it then." he said with a used car salesman like demeanor

I ended up buying my CUC, and left with a grin as I had something to put in my tank that wasn't made of stone.

The whole point behind this post is, how would an octopus fared with 0 experience on my belt? I don't want one, but maybe in the future. I've heard horror stories, and I've heard fairytales with these animals.

Keeping Octopi is more like keeping a pet similar to a cat. You can just put it in a tank and look at it occasionally. They are highly intelligent and need mental stimulation every single day.

The tank needs to completely escape proof. They will get out even the tiniest of hole.

Wonderful and rewarding animals but they require a higher level of commitment than tropical fish and corals.
