For those of you that know, I "Had" a biocube 8, turns out it was a biocube 14. It has now been running for 10 months, and i have really reduced the swings IMO. I HATE to reask questions, but i HATE even more to lose anything unneededly.

My stocking is in my signature, is there anything i should take out as far as coral? i want a mostly SPS tank.

So those dreaded questions, would that added water volume make it any easier to have a clam, or a maxi-mini, or a mixed reef? (see signature)

To be honest, i would like to have a clam, a maxi mini, and a somewhat mixed reef. In order of what i want, it would be Clam, Maxi, and mixed.

I understand i would have to add the Maxi first because they move around.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks

maxis are easily kept, they are not as hard to keep as clown hosting nems more so equivelant to a condy. ive kept them in anything from a 6 gallon to a 20 gallon. they are fairly hardy as far as anemones go. i dont think you should do a clam i hear a small tank is a death sentence for them. also a mixed reef i hear chemical warfare is bad in a small tank like this.

As far as the LPS and SPS i have lots of water movement, i run carbon and GFO, and now that i have some room with the LED i plan to get a skimmer.

i Had originally gotten an overall approval, for the clam in my 8 gal. i just felt i shouldnt do it. so i was wondering if almost double the water volume would help.

you want to add a clam to a mantis tank? just give me the money instead and I'll mail you some shells from the clam dinner I have at red lobster.

and yes read up on clams. clams require alot of turn over as well as being filter feeders so they need large volumes of water.

the only problem i have with my mantis is erratic (i almost typed erotic LOL) movement on the sandbed. for example hermit crabs, otherwise he doesnt care, he'll investigate then when he realizes its not food, he goes back to the cave.

i've been reading, i know i need to invest in an ATO that also doses with the big 3 (mag, calc, and alk.) its just i would rather not spend upwards of 150$ if i definitely cant get a clam. I am confident in my abilities with SPS.

I appreciate the info, i guess i'll have to try standing a clam up like a maxima on the sandbed. but heres a couple of differences:

    a) thats a peacock (ie 6-8 inches long) mine doesnt get more then 3"
    b) the poster even said his clam is trained to eat clams, mine is trained for crabs and frozen.
    c) if i get a dresea i could place it in the rockwork, where there shouldnt be a problem

why come here and ask for advice if you dont want to listen. now other than the fact your mantis will eat your clam, you tank is still too small for a clam. look at the sizes they grow. any of the clam breeds will grow nearly as wide as your tank is.
