    Hello,

Currently I have the Nova Extreme Pro with 6 T-5 bulbs on my 46 gallon tank. Lately, I've seen the new Marineland LED light fixtures for much cheaper. How much better are these fixtures compared to the nova extreme pro? I was thinking of purchasing one but I can't figure out why the nova extreme pro is much more expensive. Is the LED light better or the nova extreme pro? Here's a link for the LED fixture.

Marineland Double Bright LED Light Fixture (24-36 Inch)

Would the LED be better for a reef tank?

this lighting is not adequate for a reef tank. these leds mimic regular fluorescent bulbs and do not provide the output necessary for corals. this summer marineland is coming out with a LED HO (high output) version that is made for corals.

Yeah, the marineland LED that you are speaking of is not meant to support a reef. The nova extreme pro is a very nice unit.

A friend has a 6x54 version on his 120g mixed reef and has good success with it. The bulbs are not the best, but you can still run those for up to a year even keeping SPS and other light needy things such as tridacnid clams. When you upgrade lights, get ATI, KZ, or geisemann, and you will notice a huge increase in light quality and quantity over the current bulbs.
