I disagree. I think the last pic (the before pic) is far more beautiful and characteristic of the species than the first pic, which looks a bit tired and scraggly. Is it just me? :)

    my bad

just realised I have not offered any comments , just posted the images for Andrew

the second picture which is the before picture is the bubble tipped nem inflated as you normally expect to see them

the 1st picture - the mass seems larger but the expansion is not as focused in the tips

Im not an expert, but I do recall something about a typical reaction to insufficient light was to expand in order to capture more of what was available

what lighting do you have Andrew?

Looks normal to me. My BTA seems to go through periods where there are no bubbles at all. Mine actually looks more like your "after" picture most of the time except mine is green. Mine will only occasionally look like the "before" picture with the bubbles present. Usually in the mornings only. I've read that sometimes the bubbles will only be present if it is being hosted by a clown. Mine is being hosted and it rarely has bubbles. Regarding the lighting. Mine actually was more bubbly and much smaller under my old PCs. It really didn't look healthy though. Once I upgraded to T5s it really expanded and looks much healthier but it lost the bubble appearance.

You really should have waited longer than 3 months before introducing it. Keep a close eye on it.

I know (now) about the time needed for a tank to mature more before putting in an anemone but I was assured by the LFS that it would be fine... Presumably dumb advice to get a sale. In their defence, the 50kgs of live rock and 200 litres of water came from my old set-up. I'm slightly more concerned about its welfare today. It doesn't seem as big at all and several of its tentacles haven't even emerged. It seemed to be really blossoming until the last few days.

It has often been noted that "bulbed tipped" anemone in the wild do not form "bulbs" unless it is hosting clownfish. I would also not get too concerned about the lack of "bulbs" as it does not indicate poor health.
