So yesterday I started up my fuge for the first time and looking at the tank today, the water is a little cloudy, my SPS aren't showing as much polyp extension as usual, my trachy is all ballooned up, and everything doesn't look it's greatest but not bad. The weird part is the water in the fuge looks clear. I was thinking that the coral issues might be from the large amount of new saltwater added but not sure where the cloudiness is coming from. Any ideas? I going to run some tests and will posts the results as soon as I have them.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would venture to guess that what you are seeing is suspended particles released when you started up the fuge. It should disappear with alittle time.

I agree with above. ^^ Give it a day or two and it should clear up! How long did you let the water in the fuge set before you turned the pump(s) back on? What kind of substrate did you use?

The corals are reacting to the suspended particles, thay will be OK when the cloudiness goes away.

Make sure your return water is not disturbing your sand.

    Thought about this today

    and this is what happened

this is a new sump/ as per your DIY thread?

the flow you had in your tank previously meant that detritus/ sediment had managed to find a hiding place, behind the rocks, in the crevices etc

when you added the new source of water flow, this changed the flow pattern in the tank and thus pushed some of these hidden particles out of their hiding places

thats why you have a clear looking fuge, but a tank with particles in there

Thanks guys, I'll give it another day or so and see what happens.

I used miracle mud for the substrate and I let it set until everything settled as far as dust goes from the mud.
