do ALOT of research...or search bio-beads. it does work but, like everything else in this hobby, requires you watch it and constantly monitor parameters. im going to seriously suggest looking into bio-beads(solid vodka dosing), requires less maintenance and is easier to discontinue if anything goes bad.

    Good Luck

It is not something I would recommend on a whim. If you have to ask the question, you do not know nearly enough to try this. I don't mean this negatively, but it is a risky method and should be researched thoroughly beforehand. It can though, if done properly and may be something to consider if you understand the process and concepts very well. You can start with this article, but I would do a lot more research than just reading this before attempting.

And I just want to add... you are asking such a broad question that a yes or no is useless. There is such a ton of things to do for nitrates. Vodka being a very poor solution to lower nitrates. Tons of thing to do before that. Many other questions should be asked first as to why you have high nitrates to begin with. Nitrates are some of the easiest nutrients to deal with. Phosphates are harder. Not to mention we don't even know what type of tank this is for.... just sayin'.
