I am confused....my system was just fine. Then 1 day boom...an explosion of algae and crap. Skimmer pumping out black stuff that smells horrible. Why would it suddenly backfire on me?

Fantastic. Can I start to add fish now or should I wait? Also, I am going to add dual 36 inch t-5 lights to my tank. This will make twin power compacts and twin t-5's. Will this allow more corals? Or should I shoot for something else? Thanks

its a fish tank thay will do that to you . but i have found after you get something taken care of naturaly without a bunch of chemicals it will be even nicer once its gone hang in there a canyo bloom is normal i would suspect its starting to go away and thats why your getting a spike becose its not eating ar your nitrates

i had a canyo bloom with the old ladys tank 3 weeks ago now its all but gone and left me with 70% of the rocks covered in some sweet looking coraline redish pink when it started i just left it alone ive added nothing but small amounts of flake food for the CUC and a fiew waterchanges

The coraline I had growing before this outbreak was bright pink! I mean glowing pink. Never seen anything like it and I hope it comes back. The lights I am looking at are just a cheap set of coralife t-5's with a 10k day and a blue act. I also have a cheap set of leds running at night on the tank. Just bright enough to add a small glow in the tank. What would any of you recommend for a first fish BESIDES a damsel?

that all depends on tank size personal preferance amounts of live rock tank age has a part in it new tanks stay away from fish that need pods to servive if you add fish slowly and have had the tank running for a couple months you shouldent have huge spikes that can kill delicate inhabitance . but as always your milage may varry . i wouldent go with damsels unless you like them there a PITA to catch if you decide if you want them gone

Just make sure I am clear here. Just keep the system as is and the nitrates and phosphates will go away???? I do once a week 5-10 percent water changes by the way.

Maybe some bacteria in a bottle that u can buy from a fish store might help the nitrates?
