Howdy, just purchased a niger trigger for my 120g reef. His tank mates will be yellow tang, tomini tang, 2 anthias, female watanabe angel, clownfish, six line wrasse. My lfs who I trust said that he would bother shrimp...none in tank(no plans for them cause they're a no go from the wife cause they look like spiders), would not bother my starfish, and occassionally once he is bigger would maybe snack on a blue leg hermit crab but if kept fed this should not be an issue. I bought him, curious on peoples experiences with these guys, what type of food they like to feed them...any info appreciated thanks!!

you gota have caution with them around shrimp and hermits which you already stated but they will also go after snails some times

    good luck

I figured there's always a risk, he is a baby so hopefully he acclimates well to the tank, Im willing to understand the loss of some hermits along the way, thanks for the reply

he will also munch on your rock and eat any hard corals you might have. I have a very large one in a FOWLR tank and he chows on the rocks along with my Golden Puffer. My mother has a baby one and he has ate some of her rocks...not much but they need to grind their teeth down, and he has ate her candy cane corals (she doesnt have much coral in her tank!)
I feed mine mixture of krill, shrimp and squid.

time will tell, it feels as if i just need to pay attention to him...if anyone reads this and if I am making a huge mistake, pleas also let me know. I don't want to be one of those dumb people, as I do truly want to take care of my tank and its inhabitants. Thanks again

it is your choice, but I would personally not put a trigger in a reef tank IMO! Like I said my mother has a baby and even though I warned her, she is upset because it is nipping and has destroyed her candy canes. I said it will go after stoneys but I would bet that it will also go after LPS corals, esp tachy
