I have been in the hobby for 20+ years, and I still dropped my helios t5 light in the tank while filling it yesterday. No harm was done, but it was a rookie mistake.

Research and patience will get you a long way in this hobby.

As someone pretty new to the experience side of this, and sorta new still at the forum side i completely agree. Just like you probably get more than one estimate for any work you get done on your car or house until you REALLY trust someone...get more than one opinion.

Another thing i would add... just because they are your LFS doesnt mean they are giving you the right advice....

One more thing... dont be afraid to make some mistakes. I was going to post a question yesterday and then i realized i should just try it for myself and if it doesn't work ill change it back. My point is i think you can become to reliant on the forum for every little thing. just try it, but go slow. haha

UNless you are used to working on your pool and you're just gonna throw some algecide in your tank to get ride of the green you see.... post stuff like that first ;D

I moved a bunch of powerheads around and lowered the surface level of my tank to below the centerbrace to improve the flow. Failure risk was kind low 8)

Couldn't agree more wk. Mistakes are a given. The biggest though, is not reading or researching and taking shortcuts. We all do it. You hit the nail perfectly with the LFS issue. Some of these guys have "exaggerated" their advice a little like with supplements like Phyto......."live is be$t", when nothing in my tank would even eat it at the time!!! Well, fool me once........
Now, I only go to one fishguy at my LFS because of trust. :smoking:
