I agree. You have to remember that when some one posts a reply, that it is their opinion, It isn't always scientific 100% facts backed up by years of research. Just stating what has worked for them. I usually wait and if you get 9 out of 10 replies all saying the same thing, then it pretty safe to go with that. I for one never suggest anyone take what I post for the gospel 100% correct way, just take it as my experience and build on it from there.

meh, I think most of the time it's someone else's opinion and folks tend to regurgitate what they've read or heard whether or not they have any actual experience with the topic... (myself included).

so you can get 10 folks saying the same thing, but they all could just be repeating the same info from the same source with none of the 10 having any real experience with the specific question... So it's like really only hearing it once...

We're all trying to learn and we're all trying to be helpful... just something to be aware of when you're reading through responses...

If that's true than none of our words should be taken seriously. We all had to learn what we know from somewhere, and it's usually from the internet. So by reading information written by some one else, our knowledge isn't truly our own.

Until you can couple that knowledge with experience, you are right. :)

Well, when I first came to this forum, I didn't know my way around. Even got "barked" at by moderator(s). I'm no fool....you can usually tell who, where and what is usually the right direction.
Some members are hell bent on showing off with their new contraption$ & staunch advise....others are smart enough to slow down, listen & judge potential outcomes.
I agree, some people have a twisted intent that may do more harm than good without even recognizing it. That is why research, knowledge, experience.....and I would add WISDOM is key & #1 before I make any changes to my tanks!!!!! :first:

I know this has been said many times before

but one real positive about advice received on forums is that the people who post it, often do so because they genuinely want to help people
sometimes using experience, sometimes quoting the experiences of people they respect
and sometimes, they wander off onto Google , do a search and come back with some comments or a link

the other very good thing is you can take what you feel is useful and disregard the rest.

I "feel" the same way as Phoenix heights, if I see a question that I feel the OP could have searched and found, I am more than happy to do the search and find and post it for them

nobody has to help anyone if they dont want to - we dont have to give people a fish, we dont have to teach them how to fish
me - I would give them a fish and then take them fishing because its not an either or option in reality.

    its all good IMO

    Steve
