Oh no.... I didn't mean it to sound like they were personally mine. That's a lot of years and a lot of hobbyists that went into that. But I've been there for 8 years and it's "our site". My fellow mods are my "real" friends that sleep at my house... heck, I married one LOL! That's what I meant. Ours.... as in the Org's

Which seahorses were you thinking about?

When I mentioned the chiller earlier, it was because there are a smaller species of seahorse that require temperate temperatures in the 60s.

Chaeto is great for growing pods as it provides a lot of cover for protection from predators like seahorses.
However, it is massed together so much it doesn't make good hitches.
Many keepers uses grasses and other stem type macros, or more open clutches of macro, for their seahorses to hitch to.
Like others, I use artificial hitches, plastic, nylon, whatever, as long as I can clean it as needed because algae will grow on them.
You have mentioned keeping just one seahorse now, and I felt I had to let you know that seahorses do much better in pairs or larger groups, and while they can exist alone, they won't thrive like when they have others of their kind in with them.
The 16g tank is too large for dwarfs unless you are going to stock a herd of about 12 to 18. Dwarfs are more work than normal sized seahorses, but do have the advantage of being able to keep 4 to 6 in a 5g tank.
Whichever way you go, I would advise doing more research as buying the startup supplies and livestock is not the only expense you need to consider.
Seahorses very often, especially with new keepers, come down with maladies and if not treated soon enough, can perish. There are basic medicines to have on hand (see the "org") and that costs money as well. Then too, you should have a hospital/quarantine tank for viewing better and treating when required.

I hear what you say about late night posting, sometimes I get a little pushy too. But hey, its all for fun right! LOL

Like I said I would love to be able to have one tank for all but as both Rayjay and you have said its never really a good idea because some one or something always doesn't do well.

And due to the recent economy having multiple tanks has become a real issue at my house. It has has always kept me from having some of the things I have always wanted but now its worse.

Being able to mix species like that would Allow me to have my dream tank, LOL in which there would be a pair of everything, plus multiple pipes... I can dream right?

If different species of seahorses are put through the process that Rayjay describes, why can't they be kept together? Is there something other than parasite/disease related.

also, I just wanted to note, there are not "(many pictures)" as the OP suggests. :p:p:p

Basically the only answer I can give you is to quote Incognito,

No one knows, it has been investigated time and time again and to no avail, many have tried and very few have succeeded.

As far as pictures go, I done my part.... I might be able to find a few more and will post a link to them later.
