i let go of the idea of a biocube. i called up my LFS they said they have a 16 high. its 18 inches tall, and would look good with the trim it has.

i just can set up that big of a tank. my mom said only 15 at the most im not telling her that this is a 16 gallon. i just might do the dwarfs. even though i relly love the pair i wanted at the begginging

This is why our opinions differ.... our experiences are different. I recently brought 3 from a 50g down to an 18g. Mine go completely nuts in this thing. They were so "happy" after having them for a 2-1/2 years in the 50g, the reidi and erectus are breeding. Maybe there was something in my big tank bothering them.... maybe there was something in your smaller tank bothering them. *shrugs*

This was the tank I moved them from.

I have a load of carnivorous fish.... none of them will eat the fry. They won't even nibble out of curiosity.

*Side comment* If you ever think about mixing species OP, go on the Org and do some reading about it first. I thought I should include that where I menationed I had more than one species in a tank.

I don't know anything about zots. I got burned out on breeding years ago and having them is just too much like breeding... except they never grow up... it just goes on and on and on and on.......... and on. :)

You weren't thinking of mixing the two, right? Just checking 'cause the way you had it posted.

These are awesome. I like the Hippocampus erectus. But you realize they are only recommended as a pair if you have a 29g or larger, right? They get decent size.

Yes, but that's a blanket recommendation..... it's beginners that usually read our guides. And that a good tank for a seahorse beginner.

Or were you not even talking to me.......

lol. I wasn't aware that these guides were yours. Not important, but cool.

I noticed that the H. erectus says a pair should be had in a 29g or larger. OP wants to have a pair in an 16. I don't know if (s)he saw how big they get.

I can personally recommend Pekas ponies, Beth has some of the nicest Captive bred ponies out there and she is a absolute doll to work with! She usually has a pretty good selection available.

Can you tell I am just a little Biased! I got a few of my my ponies from her, and she is a good friend of mine. We belong to the same Reef club her in the Chicago area. I have been to her house many times, she has one unbelievable set up.

You can also ask here about the Dwarfs, I am really not sure if she still has hers or not. Last time we talked she was talking about getting rid of hers.

You are a Heretic! Blasphemous! Sacrilege! But absolutely, incredibly, incredibly cool!

How long have you had them together, I assume for quite some time now, right. I have always wanted a pair of each in the same tank but Know all the reasons why you shouldn't an just could not bring my self to attempt it.

    I want more info please.....

When one sees that seahorses are kept in conditions not recommended by experienced keepers, it means that the odds of success are much much greater if you adhere to those recommendations.
However, there are seahorses being kept in other conditions.
The unfortunate story is that for every one successfully kept in non recommended conditions, there are thousands that die in the attempts to do so.
Even doing everything according to recommendations is no guarantee of success, only that the odds are much better.
If you try to keep erectus in a 20, you will be faced with a lot more work than if you use a 29/30 as recommended.
There are links at the bottom of my seahorse page that is linked in my signature.
These articles are written by experienced people including a commercial breeder, Dan Underwood and library articles from seahorse.org, the most informative site on the internet for seahorse information for hobbyists.
As for recommended places to buy, the most recommended would be seahorsesource.com, pekasponies.com (Beth), and also the site you looked at provides true captive bred, seahorsecorral.com from who I'm awaiting erectus and dwarfs if the weather would only warm up a bit at the point of entry to Canada.
