i got 210 dollers for christmas... i have 30 dollers still left, so you could do i for under
200 easy. but i did already have a filter and a t-5 so that was a big chunk. the part with the highs pricetag was the horses. the were 100 for the pair. they are a lot easyer to keep then i though

Cool. Thanks. I am not sure what species I want yet. I saw they were similar in price. I don't have anything yet if I do build a tank for these though.

yes a used skimmer is a good idea as they are quite expensive new, also you might want to try seahorses of the zosterae variety(dwarfs) they are fairly easy compared to most seahorses and dont need a large tank at all, and are most importantly extremely cheap at about 20 dollars for a pair. but if you buy off seahorse.com they have all their seahorses weened onto frozen food, but their seahorses are very expensive, but pretty.

This is the kind I think I want. Didn't rayray recommend feeding frozen mysis shrimp, 3X daily?

I've had erectus in a 36 gallon tank for about a year and a half now, and they are great. Sounds like you're doing an excellent job, but really make sure the cycle is finished before adding the horses to the tank. Let me tell you, its no fun to lose a seahorse, especially when it could have been avoided. I would recommend putting some macros in there. Mine love to hunt in them and they make great natural hitches, not to mention the nutrients they absorb. Mine grew under regular fluorescent light, too, so they certainly don't require anything special. Good luck.
