I'd stick with the peppermints unless you can get people on the "org" to confirm that any other kind will be ok.
A lot of other shrimp may bother the seahorses like cleaner shrimp do.

Diatoms and micro algae, otherwise known to many as simply nuisance algae, are a part of most salt water systems in their movement to maturity of the system.
The degree of nuisance will depend on many things, like the water quality used to make the salt water, and the nutrients added to the tank. Sometimes even airborne spores contribute.
Husbandry is the cheapest form of removal, with the more frequent removal giving best results towards the mature tank.
Many additives have been sold over the years that claim to help but I've not used anything myself and can't comment on whether or not it is worth it to buy them.
One way I use when I get this situation in a newer set up, I use the magnet on the glass and just stir the very top surface only of the sand and brush the rock to remove this stuff, while at the same time, having a fine filter to remove the particles (and therefore remove excess nutrient) from the water and then I clean out the filter after the water has cleared.
Often this is a daily chore that gets less frequent as the tank matures, but every tank is different and there is no set time period or frequency one can tell you. I like to use Hagen 802 power heads with quick filter attachment, but that's just a personal preference. (I think they are now called Aquaclear 70 but they have various sizes. The quickfilter is normally an extra purchase for them)
