I agree. Just start the cycle using ammonium chloride or put some food in the tank to decay and produce the ammonia for the cycle.

It's not a fight, but a discussion. I think peeps always try to educated when they see people cycling with live. It's an old-school technique, and really is outdated and has been replaced by easier, healthier and safer ways.

    A table shrimp is cheaper....

And what are you going to do when you can't get it back out? Tear apart the tank to catch him? He's not even remotely acceptable as a tankmate, especially given the size of your tank.

You're also looking at captive bred seahorses.... you wanna put an un-quarantined, potentially cootie-filled wild caught fish in there?

    Cootie filled !!!! I love that! +1

I do agree with you 100 percent, just use some pure ammonia, or a table shrimp, all of which are really cheap. Cycling with live fish is just cruel, especialyl when there are so many other viable options.

Plus seahorsese are not easily kept, and your right introducing an not qt fish is a recipe for disaster

Can you explain this a little more indepth, I'm not quite sure I understand what your plan is.... or maybe it's just the logic of it that I'm unsure of.

right now i have the tank filled with saltwater and sand. im going to order about 23 or 25pounds or rock from reefcleners. next is to just take out a few pounds out of my 26. after the cycal is over im going to take the rock that was in my 26and put it back into my 26. i will leave some liverock from my 26 in this tank for the baserock to get stuff growing on it.
