mike makes a good point on the bioballs. personally live rock rubble is as simple as they come for filtration, no need for cleaning.

ive got my biocube into a fuge right now but previously it was liverock at the bottom with carbon on top and some filter floss on top of all. really simple and easy to maintain

while you are cycling. try not to use the lights, they will only help the algae. only when you need it.

any questions ask away, there are plenty of biocube owners here

i have the biocube 14 that been up for about 2 and a half months.! I created a fuge in the back with a custom built light. I took out half the bio balls and put chaeto on top of them. LR is a pain because you still have to clean it and its hard to take out. Just rinse the bioballs once a week and it works out perfectly. Feel free to PM me and i will be more then happy to show u some pics of how i have my fuge set up, lighting plans etc.!

    Good luck!

Wow thank you everyone, you are all very helpful! I have had it up and running since the 26th with sand and liverock. When would be a good time to add hermit crabs (how many?) or a starfish or something? and to have clownfish, do I need to make my tank a reef tank or no? can they live with just live rock and nothing else? once again thanks for the great help!

Yes, they can live with just rock. I added My clean up crew (CUC) 2 weeks after my tank was set up bu preferably you should probly wait till your tank has cycled. I have about 10 blue legs and some other ones. I also have about 17 snails in their right now.
