Hello, My name is Kenny Hill, I am 23 years old. I come to you from Lake Elsinore California (southern California) I love the ocean and everything it offers us to enjoy.
I just wanted to introduce myself to everybody on here. I just set up my very first saltwater tank. I have SOOO much to learn and i want to learn it all. my goal is to learn as much as i can and get my tank established for a couple years then upgrade to a giant tank 200+ gal.
I would like to get advice from all you experts out there and pick your brains as much as i can. please feel free to give me as much constructive criticism as you can. I will be sure to keep you guys posted on everything i do. and take a lot of cool pictures along the way.

This is my setup so far. I bought a used 65 gallon acrylic tank, stand, and a fluvar 304 filter + heater

LIGHTING - 2 actinic lights and 2 regular white lights, all four are 16'' made buy Blue Life "sorry i cant be more specific i threw away the boxes"

ROCK- Just to start i bought 22 pounds " i need lots more'' I have fiji, indo, and bali mixed.

The first thing i learned is its very expensive to buy everything at one time haha;D

I am looking forward to talking saltwater aquariums with all of you Thanks for your help in advance. Kenny

Welcome to 3 reef , Kenny

thats a nice looking tank and cabinet you have there IMO

1 comment on what you have thus far from me ( I dont know what you intend to keep so wont comment further at this stage)

if the Fluval is the only source of water movement in the tank ( I dont see any others on the pic but that may be my eyesight)

you may have issues with scum building up on surface, trapped protiens on the surface layer - which will interefere with the gas exchange and you tank may suffer from oxygen issues over a long period

get at least one, prefferably 2 more power heads to disrupt that water surface and keep it clean IMO

    Steve

Thanks for compliments guys. As of right now the fluvar is the only source of water movement. I will definitely be adding a power head or two. Steve you are right. I can see particles and dust gathering at the surface already. so the power head will be my next purchase.

The hermit crab is very cool. But it is very active. its ALL over the tank digging threw the sand. I think he might be a little to rambunctious for my tank. but he is ok for now since i do not have to much going on yet.

For those of you joining us that are new to the hobby - the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
And for those experianced hobbyists joining us - it's still good advice :p
good luck and post pics soon :)
