Well I have had my 55 reef up n running for a yr nd a half plus all my other tanks I've decided to step up with the bigger boys nd I bought a used (nit tempered) 225.I will be drilling this myself:)....my questions are:
is a mag 18 a big enough return pump?
what size drains should I drill?

Im sure ill have more question and ill make a build thread as it goes

Awesome. I'll definitely be following along. I can't wait. Will this be a reef?

A mag 18 should be plenty of head pressure.

What will you be doing for flow? I would look into a closed loop.

That is good enough flow, but I would go for an external pump.

I would do 1.5" drains, and 1" returns if only doing 2 of each.
If you do more, then 1" drains, and 3/4" returns

Thanks...thiis will be a reef one I get my led fixture finished up.going to stick with lps for now. For flow ill be runnning an mp40 with some koralias. I am on a pretty tight budget tis tank was a steal so I couldn't pass it up. I would have loved to do closed loop but this may be a peninsula tank depending how my parents let me situate it.only 1 room in my house is on a slab so my options are limited.

I have a dart on my closed loop on my 180 and LOVE IT. great pumps.

I also have dual 1 1/2" drains and dual 1" returns on my tank. then the clsoed loop is dual 1" returns with a single 1 1/2" suction.
