    Welcome to 3Reef.

I'd stick with what you have now, as in take it slow, don't add anymore fish for awhile, if at all.
Any pics or the sump system? How much light is your unit rated at?

Stick around here, some great peeps with some great advice.

    Re-read the OP.

    Cannister filter?
check into that- as in, maybe OK if very little in it, or it's properly cleaned every few days, etc.
Current trends do not use cannister filters on Reef Tanks IMHO

Thank you for the helpful suggestions.

I don't know what the lights are rated for - they are Marineland Reef Capable LEDs but when I've looked them up I only see "equivalent to T5s" - they were recommended when we bought the tank so we didn't know what to ask. The guy who moved the tank and installed them took the box.

We have both a sump and canister filter but are thinking of switching the sump for a sump with a refugium.

I wondered about the canister. The guy we have hired to maintain the tank never opened it. He also never checked the water beyond salinity. We have since bought a batch of test kits to start tracking things ourselves.

We are looking to let the tank stabilize a while before anymore fish - though our professional is recommending a mandarin gobey. We're thinking there are benefits to the refugium anyway, and have been told our current sump is small. We want to hold off on the mandarin for a while - too many things to learn. We really love the system and care about it's residents.

Looking forward to exploring all that is offered here!

If it were my system, once it become more established in a week or two I would remove the canister from the system. Canisters have their place but you have a perfectly fine sump and skimmer. Canisters require a good cleaning at least monthly, since you do not need it why have another chore.

Some will tell to remove the bio-balls from the sump but I would only do that if you see a chronic problem with higher nitrate levels.

The plastic plants might become a place for algae to grow, the clean up crew will have difficulty keeping that clean.

I would see if you can take the lights back. I have reef capacble marinelands on my fuge, and they are barely strong enough for that application.

Will ask about the lights but I doubt it. The energy efficiency of the LEDs is appealing. Does anyone have a recommendation of LEDs for a 90 gal 48 inch tank that would be better? The maintenance guy says the next upgrade would cost a few thousand dollars. It seems there must be something in between?

[IMG]Wow. These look better than what we have and cost less. Need to work out a timer but that's not a big deal. Thank you for the tip!

The plastic is gone. :) A few small corals were added in exchange for the anemone.

    Thanks again for the help!

    You're a quick leaner.

Just a heads up that is as many fish as that tank can house.
