I honestly don't know if the base rock would cause any kind of mini cycle, I am sure some else will chime in and have an answer on that. I do know that the live rock you have will eventually seed the base rock and make it live rock.

There is no curing Base rock, in essence its already cured because there is nothing live on it to die off and thats what curing is all, die off and rebirth.

But from the sounds of it they should have to worry to much about any type of cycle because that tank hasn't finished cycling yet as it is.

I know it but I'm not to stupid I have you guys now. :)

My tank is 1 month old I have change the water 3 times 50% all OR water..

I see what the LFS is saying. Change the weekly 50% should keep all parms good.

If I changed the water 50% weekly will the tank ever cycle?

And does the Tank need to cycle?

Also this will not be a hardcore reef it will be more of a fish invert tank to.

You guys have been a big help thanks again. If I don't get back to you soon it's because I got knocked off line because of IKE (bring it on punk)

Didn't mean you were stupid, just want you to read those because there is allot of really good info there. Have these water changes been with RO water all the time? if so don't do any more.

Yes it will keep your params good but you will never create the biological filter that is need to keep fish and inverts healthy and is created when a tank cycles, or if you do it will take for freaking ever plus you will spend a crap load of money on salt that is not needed. with a 34 gallon you should only change 10% weekly or bi-weekly

    NO

    Yes see above

Doesn't matter fish need the biological filter also.... I know you want to have all those pretty fish but

Be careful and GOOD luck down there, Been there done there 16 years ago in Homestead Fl.

Thanks bro your a good man..

I know you where not implying I was stupid but the LFS always think we are. You know they whole Cock thing? My cock is bigger than yours? LOL.. dam fish guys think they are the **** LOL!

And to answer your question about the water changes being RO? The answer is yes all RO water and top offs are all RO. I got a GE RO system that I have hooked up so I always have lots of RO water. I do 10 gallons of RO add Salt in a ice chest with a power head keeping the water moving.

Yeah you gotta love them LFS guys! Well I would leave your water alone then, put your new rocks in arrange them the way you want them and get either a Damsel, Clown and let it finish cycling, trust me you will not regret it.

Keep in mind depending on what kind of fish your putting in there Damsels and Clowns can be a real PITA especially if you decide to remove them. thats why some recommend using a piece of raw shrimp, and it doesn't have to be a big one either.

    Good luck

Let me ask you one more question I'm kind of baffeld about. The rear sump has a chamber for Micro bio balls. The water level in the sump covers the bio balls as the water level in the sump is the level the MFG recommends. I thought the bio balls should not be below water level and should only have water run over them? What are your thought's on this?

not to use bioballs, they can trap crap and garbage thats really hard to get out and raise your nitrates. I would use so rock rubble it will add to your biological filter.

So I should get rid of the Bio balls and use rock? Any tipe of rock? Like Live rock or base rock?

Should the rock be total submerged in water or should it be above the water in the sump?

Whats size rock are we talking here? Like pebble size or does it matter?

Live rock or base rock, either will work

    Submerged

Small pieces not pebble though, small enough to pile in there, usually called Rock rubble. You can break some off of the rock you already have.
