Setting up a new tank (120). Should I put something between the tank and the stand? I was thinking like a foam piece or something. I didn't know if it really mattered or not.

    New Tank.

Setting up a new tank (120). Should I put a foam piece between the tank and the stand? I think I have read that some do that but I can't remember if it was a good thing, bad thing, or didn't really matter.

Contact the manufacturer of the tank and stand. Always best to go right to the source as diff. manufacturers may have different requirements. Just like in a regular Subaru engine (non-turbo) you cannot use synthetic oil or any other test than regular octane fuel. I would not have guessed that unless I was told so - that's why I like to contact the manuf. directly. Especially if you do so via email - then you are creating a traceable paper trail that can help you in the future if you should need to go that unfortunate route of getting an insurance claim filed.

    Best of luck!!!

I don't know who the manufacturer is. I bought the tank on craigslist. The only thing it says is: built by MG/CL, June 2009. I don't know who MG/CL is.

Keep looking - I am sure it's somewhere - AGA, Perfecto, Aqueon, Marineland, etc - there will be some label on there somewhere . . . .

Many people recomend this. Especially if the floor isn't completely level all the way across. The foam will help keep the tank from twisting or bending. I didn't put any under mine because I didn't know anything about it untill recently. But I think it is a good idea. I will be doing this on my next tank. You can never be too carefull in this hobby.

I used a thin foam sheet from Home Depot for a 90. When the tank was broken down and the foam was exposed you could see how uneven the indent was from the edge of the tank. It may have been fine without it, but it makes it easier to sleep at night knowing there's less stress on the tank. The foam sheets are pretty cheap.

I wish someone would have originally told me to do this, fortunately my tank is leveled on two 1/2 think pieces of plywood.

Are you sure there isnt some sort of tag on the back or underneath that says who makes it? mine has a small circle that reads AGA on the front. Can you call the person who sold you the tank?
