right so i finally got a proper RO/DI unit and im looking at a discrete place to install it near my tank. however the inlet line would have to run roughly 3 meters to my faucet. what would be the consequence of this? loss in pressure? or should i be fine.

pretty stoked i finally have a proper unit. goodbye for good TDS and silicates hello potential sps...soon.....soooooon.....

No problem since the inlet is pressurized. If it were say 20+ meters you could always step up to the next size tubing, say 3/8" versus the standard 1/4" or whatever the metric equivalent is to reduce friction or line losses.

so i feared this....my pressure barely passes 10 psi, what iv done is added a little faucent on my outlet line slowing the amount of water produced and by consequence boosting my pressure up to 48psi.

    pros:

    decent pressure

    cons:

    real slow "pure" water production.

this method will probably also not show me when the filters need replacing correct? how much do pressure boost pumps go for? are they all the same?

thx for the help people much needed

You can find booster pumps on eBay for under a 100 worth while investment for sure. Most filter companies will tell you to had 70 to 80lbs of water pressure. Trust me you will notice a difference in water production

Sounds like your unit does not have a flow restrictor installed in the waste line. If not it needs on set at 4:1 waste ratio or 4 mL waste for every 1 mL treated.

Did you add a "little faucet" to the treated line or the waste line?

If it is to the treated line then your membrane is not seated properly in the housing and water is bypassing it, that or there is no membrane installed period. The treated flow should be a few mL per minute at most if it is working correctly.

yes 70-80 is fine but as AZ will tell thats just the company covering its arse, most RO/DI houseing can handle 120 or so and as i found out (after AZ helped me out) i keep mine set at 100psi and you will see a huge deff to. (also if you didnt notice Trust AZ when it comes to this he knows his stuff)
also be wary of ebay booster, go with a name brand and not a chinese knock off they usually have no warranty and don't last as long either if you can just get the Aquatech booster pump. http://www.aquacave.com/AQUATECH-88...y-P1816.aspx?gclid=CPPXj9WXvLUCFQWCnQodGkYAOA

You certainly need a booster pump - unfortunately no way around this. You can spend $85 for a cheap Chinese knock off on ebay or $120 for an Aquatec 8800 that will last a long time and have very strong resale value in the case that you ever decide to sell it (no-name pumps will not hold value at all).

I just went through this, as my input pressure from my faucet was only 35 PSI. Bought the Aquatec 8800 from Bulk Reef Supply and am now getting 90 PSI. My RO/DI output went from a few drips per second to a heavy flow. I would say about 10x faster.

Plus, your filters and DI resin will last much longer. Its a painful investment but a very important one.
