Hi i have set up a orca tl450 as my qurent tank and put some coral sand from my DTank in it along with some small bits off live rock rubble. I need some advice on the cycle as my d.tank had so much live rock & life that t never showed really any raise in ammonia , a small spike in the nitrite but the nitrate did slowly go up so im a bit stuck with this one. I mixed the salt mix up left it for 3 days and nothing happeded so i put some frosen shrimp in and that ammonia went up very quick over the past 2 weeks and is now going down every so slowly.Should i be adding the shrimp every few days or do you only add it at the start to get the ammonia going?
Nitrite & nitrate are both very high to.
    Thanks K

Just my opinion, you are only setting up another display tank. A quarantine tank needs to be a controlled environment. Meaning, adding substrate etc. could potentially harbor something you are trying to avoid/fix. Not to mention medicines will be limited because the risk of poisoning future set-ups. Your live rock, sand and, equipment will be trouble if you were to use copper. It may be just another tank that you could watch for signs of stress/disease prior to putting it in dt. But then again, if you are buying from a reputable source and your dt is stable/healthy, there's no need.

Should i take the bits i put in out then? well there is only two shops near me and they are about 45 mins away. They are not that great they sell fish as soon as they get shipped in so and also offer very bad advice, not very good really but they are all i have where i live!. I just thiught it was a good idea as all they books i have read say you would be very stupid to put a fish straight into your display tank with out outtin it in a quren tank for atleast 3-4 weeks?
    Thanks K

A quarantine tank can be set-up pretty easily with a rubbermade container and a few pieces of equipment.
