I agree - I would go with the one. I have 2 on my Dell laptop...I have nothing on the second drive....It seems like a waste

    Bruce,
Were you talking about HD or CD? If you were talking removeable media, it depends on what you are wanting to do. If you seldom want to make copies of a CD, a single DVD/CD combo drive makes sense. If you do make a lot of copies, two drives, one a DVDRW/CDRW combo and a DVD/CD combo makes more sense ( less swapping). The other consideration would be weight. A system with 2 drive bays is going to be much heavier than one with a builtin or single bay. In terms of reliability, the combo drives are just as reliable as two single duty drives would be. I have a pair of drives in my system that are 4 years old and have never failed me. I also do this for a living and we have maybe 1 in 200 fail, most within the first 30 days of use.

Just keep an eye out for the local's ads. Office Depot, Best Buy, Frye's, etc. They run specials all the time. Actually now thru the end of Sep. may be the best times. Back to school, you know? lol

Also keep your eyes on http://www.bensbargains.net, Ben posts nearly every single "deal" that is sent to him or he finds online...if you have some time to continually watch the site and have an idea of what you like, u can find some pretty good stuff for decent prices (after Mail-In-Rebates and Instant Rebates and stuff like that)!!!!!
