Hello! I'm new here to 3reef and I was wondering what I would need for a 29g saltwater fowlr tank. Would i need a protein skimmer? The fish i would be planning to get would be first some damsels and then get some clownfish. Not at the same time of course!
I am planning on adding 20lbs of live sand and then 10 lbs of live rock. I have a Fluval C4 and am planning on adding powerheads. Would I need one of two? I am planning on buying two of these ones and wondering what size to buy. http://www.amazon.com/Marineland-Ml...POIO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337897107&sr=8-1
    Thanks!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Welcome to 3reef.

Is this a Biocube by any chance?

You need Hydrometer initially (better yet a refractometer if you can afford it)
    Heater.
    Basic test kits for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates.
    Salt mix.
A decent amount of rock to provide a medium for the biological filter.
Skimmer is optional and not essential on smaller tanks. Keeping bio-load appropriate and feedings appropriate ( do not over feed).
Source of water ie: RO/DI or some other source such as the local fish store that provides RO/DI water. Water containers.
I always like to have some Prime or equiv around should I need it.
    Tubing for water changes.
    Fish net.
    Mechanical sponges (filtration).

Power heads: Depends on the power head and how much flow you want. A couple of Koralia (not nano) will do nicely.

Thank you! And wht do you mean by mechanical sponge? The little sponge filters? And is the Fluval C4 enough for saltwater?

Mechanical sponge is anything that removes suspend matter. They can be sponge, floss or other filter media.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Fluval so I can not comment on it's ability to perform.

    :)

I have the fluval C4 on a FWplanted tank and my SW tank. Love the filters, very quiet, starts up with no issues, have never had a problem with cloudy water. Even when nearly set up I stuffed the thing with filter floss to clear up all the small snad particles and the tank was clear in 24hours.
Powerheads, I have 1 750 and 2 nano 425 koralias on my 46gallon seems to do the job, but that is mostly because the 750gph provides the majority of the flow and the 2 nanos and filter just help prevent deadspots

Thanks pghSteeler! Did you say that you used the C4 with sand? That didn't kill the impeller? Or did you use a foam cover for the intake tube?

And no it isn't a biocube.
