I couldn't resist the LFS was running a 20% sale on all livestock and I saw a tank full of flame scallops for $13.99. I picked one up that is 3.5 - 4 inches in diameter.

Anybody have any expirience with them? Anything I should watch out for.

    Thanks
    Sean

    Sorry All,
I did a search after I posted and found numerous other posts about flame scallops that pretty much answered my questions. $13.99 down the crapper is what I got out of my reading. I will do my best to keep him alive though.

I don't know much about them, but it is really cool to see them open and close real fast and jet across the tank. It is amazing how fast they can go!

I won't loose faith, and like I do for all my critters I will try and keep him alive the best I can. He sure is cool looking.

Get yourself some live phytoplankton and your chances of keeping it alive will improve a bit. :)

They're actually pretty hardy. Keep water parameters stable, watch your salinity, and like amcraig said phytoplankton. Get some live phyto, start a culture, but that's what they eat phyto. And if you're in Illinois I'm assuming you aren't using NSW, but salt mix instead for your water changes, right? IF you aren't using NSW then Phyto supplementation is a must.

You'll be fine, my friend has 9 big ones his 125 gal. They're always hiding , but we count'em, and they're still there.

Yep, I've been using live phytoplankton already so no change there.
