    It is perfectly normal and looks healthy!
    The change in color is due to what nanoreefer touched upon, growth of your star polyps!

    I found this thread from a link on another thread.

    I just wanted to point out that very few octocorals care one iota where your Calcium levels are at. You can tell if your coral is an octocoral if each polyp has 8 tentacles. GSP's (or Clavularia) are an octocoral. Off the top of my head I can think of Tubipora, Heliopora (which no one can afford), and a few species of Gorgonia would be the exception as opposed to the rule. Yes, most species require small amounts of it for their internal spicules but boosting Ca levels for most species will not have much effect on that corals health.

    In my experience when the edges begin to flake up like that it breaks off and eventually dies. Its happened to certain pieces when moving them from tank to different tank. When they grow they just kind of melt over and expand their purple rubbery base. I have a piece doing awesome about 12" below 2 250 watt mh with 108 watts of uvl super actinics with strong flow, id move him around a little. As stated above sometimes its just luck with certain pieces.
