this is what i was trying to say. since how many peoples tanks sit next to an ethernet connection. its something to think about.

well I get the wireless now, but then what is the point of the web server? It's just a web client right so it does not need the Apex program on the desktop???

I taked to them originally and they mentioned not wanting to put in a wireless board since wireless is constantly improving at this point. Many new homes now do have wireed homes and for those folks with a computer near by it does save them money. I bought a linksys adapter for another $100. So that does have to be figured in the price of getting everything running. But even still a $150 Apex unit with another $125 for a EB8 energy bar and you already have more than the controllers had just 3-4 years ago at half the cost. Tech is cool.

the web server is how you access the info.( it acts as the controllers head unit) you have to use that since you dont have a head unit to access the info. so you must connect to the internet some how. wireless, with a wireless adapter of some sort or threw ethernet. its a good price. but i would much rather have the head unit sitting at the tank that i can go threw. and have internet access when i wanted it and not be forced to use internet . IMO after all is said and done for 149.00 your really not getting much.

    Cool thanks.

Shame you do not feel you are getting much. The programing is very powerful. Using the PC is much much easier than the head unit. With interfaces being what they are today, touch phones and keyboads are much better than pushing 4 buttons to navigate through endless menus.

However, the only thing I did do on the head unit was one button feed modes. You had 4 and only had to hit a button to activate any of them. So now with this unit not sure how feed modes will work or if that too will have to be accessed through the web.

Small price to pay as far as I'm concerned. I had the AC Jr and then Apex. If I was in the market now I would have no problems with the Apex Jr. (except I would still get a full Apex)

its a matter of what your looking for i guess. and this unit might work out really well for some. i like the full apex or the apex lite better. i want the temp and ph probe and head unit. i agree about feed mode. its a nice feature.

Using a PC is easier to program, but having to rely on the internet to check parameters is inconvenient. I would prefer walking over to my tank and see what is going on than getting on the internet. This also means that if the internet isn't working, you are pretty much SOL. Not everyone has a phone that will access the internet.

If you could buy a small display for the unit, I would buy this controller.

Ya... this is just meeting a price point. There is still the Apex lite and full $pex. $150 for a controller w/4 outlets is darn good and same as the other offering out there.

I programed my apex off my network, not off the web. Had full functioning off the PC. I rarely even looked at the head unit... but you can still have one. The only competition is Reef Keeper. They do the same thing pricing wise... head unit and 4 outlets for $125... but everything is extra... PH module plus probe.... So $150 for a no head unit, 4 VARIABLE outlets and no module needed for PH plus full Apex programing is a darn good value.
