I had a mated pair and the female jumped out because they were both in the overflow, anyways I still have the male so I was planning on getting another smaller clown and hope they pair up. My current clown never hosted in anything, neither of them did. If I get a clown that is hosting, and they mate up, would they both potentially host in something? should I get a clown that is already in a nem and just buy them nem to go with it?

IME I got two that were captive bread and that were hosting a nem, I bought a frogspawn thinking they would host it... they never did.

IMO its a 50-50 shot on them hosting it but I did read that if you put a picture of another clown hosting the coral aginst the glass or in the tank that they will have a better chance of hosting it

welll I haven't went to buy the fish yet haha Im wondering if I buy one thats already hosting, if my male that I have now will mate with it and host with it, because the pair I had before never showed any interest in hosting... so im kinda wondering if I should buy a nem with the clown

Buying a nem/clownfish pair would be your best bet at keeping one clown in the nem. The only thing anyone can say beyond that is IF the two clowns pair up, they MIGHT both reside in the nem. There is never any guarantee, though, that either will ever occur.

Thats what I was thinking, if my clown I have now sees the new clown going in and out of the nem, if he would want to get in it as well. Im hoping he will become the female and the smaller one I buy would become the male

i would get a nem for the clowns.... as long as your water is stable, and you have good lighting and understand what a nem needs by doing research, id get one...

also get a clown and a nem at the same time.... put the nem and clown in the bucket while you drip acclimate them, the clown will immidiately dive into the nem and they will be together forever...

this has worked for me and all my friends every time

somthing else to think about is that is the one you might buy does host and your male now dosent thath the clown that is hosting might stop hosting. if that makes sense

50/50 shot but if you want a nem and want another clown there might not be a better time to just get both plus if the new clown can hide in the nem it might make acclimating it a little easier
