Could you ask the person you are getting the tank from?

To be honest, I don't even know the person the tank came from. Not trying to sound confusing, but it came from my brother's friend's sister's boyfriend's friend, as far as I know.

I hope that's the case on only the bottom being tempered, that would be great.

As far as the rim goes, it's not so much the cracks along the edges I'm concerned with, it's the brace across the middle. Its cracked and there is about a 4" gap missing.

I'm gonna do some research on this "herbie method".
    Thanks for the help, Screwtape.

Well, I doubt it's tempered but it would suck to find out the hard way. You have two options (IMO) that are solid. All you really need in a 75g tank is one overflow rated at about 600GPH. Look at ESHOPPS and CPR. The CPR is what I have been running and I love it. However, you do need a siphon assist with it, and the best IMO is the aqualifter. You can actually use some types of powerheads to kill two birds with one stone (increase internal tank flow and siphon assist), but it is not as effective. I have had personal experience with this. The ESHOPPS is supposed to never lose siphon, but if you get some backsplash into the tube (kinda rare), siphon can break and there you go. You can McGyver a siphon assist for this as well using a drill, a nipple, some 1/4 inch air hose and an aqualifter....but if you are going to do that, you might as well go CPR. If you actually WERE McGyver, you could do it with a banana peel, a spoon and some thread.

Now....the center brace. You ABSOLUTELY need that. Without it, the tank will bow out bigtime. There are threads on here RE: DIY remedies for the malady you face. Sometimes you can buy a complete top brace (all the way around and center) at the LFS (or have them order you one). If this doesn't work.....and you want to stick with 75g, they are relatively inexpensive as the glass thickness doesn't get expensive until 90g. You would get away with about $150 for a 75g tank. I wouldn't pay anymore than that.

Good luck and Happy Tanksgiving (Sorry, couldn't resist). John.

You can test the glass with polarized glasses and an LCD screen from a laptop, put the laptop in the tank and stair at it with the sunglasses if you see circles/swirls it's tempered

I have a CPR 600GPH and aqualifter than I no longer need. Worked excellent for a year, with no problems. With a monthly cleaning of the prefilters on it, you will never have problems.

    PM me if interested.

Would it be overkill to have two overflow boxes? And can I put a valve on the line to decrease the flow if needed? I wasn't sure if it would effect the operation of the overflow box if you restricted it's flow.
I was thinking one to (slowly) drain water to the fuge, the other to drain to the sump where the skimmer and return pump will be.

Just get one overflow and tee it off under the stand so one goes to the fuge(slow) and the rest goes into the sump..
