Your tanks are amazing, your emporer angel is beautiful, I was given a juvenile emporer by a friend who promptly ate all my corals and has now cost me building this 350 DT. ;D
Have you managed to keep any corals with your emporer ? I now there must be a way to do it, I'm just not that smart I guess ?

Thank you for the advice and opportunity to see your set ups, they have blown me away, that's for sure, your have a little slice of paradise in your home, congratulations.

How much time woulda say you devote a week to your tanks on maintenance ?

Thanks much Ken. Never tried corals with the Emperor, I keep big fish separate from the reef. You could just keep corals that angels don't eat and make it easy.

As far as maintenance, not much at all besides feeding. I keep lower light, so no algae in the tanks. Change filter socks every week or so. Clean the glass once a month. That's about it. Much easier to maintain than the reef.

Filter socks have made a huge difference in keeping the FOWLR tanks clean. When I ran just a skimmer, there was always a big accumulation of detritus that settled out in the sumps. With the socks and the 300 being bb now, the tanks are much cleaner.

    Ohh no you Di int!!

I dunno man.. This is always how the "I wish I woulda, cloulda".... starts.
All it takes is one "impulse coral buy" at the LFS and your DONE!!

If I were you Plan for the "worst" unless you are hardcore committed FOWLR.

LED's are all the rave and are costly. For FOWLR you don't need powerful lights. I believe T5's are good and energy efficient and cheap.

I am only familiar with the Ecoray line.. They are up to the "DX line" D means dual control of your whites and blues on two independent switches. X means dim-able.. I have had good success with these. I think they are competitively priced and come in different sizes.. They have great PAR readings.

I had a six bulb Tek over the 300. The light looked good when it was over a reef tank, bit I just didn't like it over the bigger tank. I tried a PAR bulb I had lying around with the thought of using a few of them. I really liked the dramatic effect the single bulb made and went with that. It lights up the front of the tank very well, but the back of the tank is dark, making it look like it goes back forever. The fish are also more comfortable without the bright light.

Whatever you decide, keep in mind that on a FOWLR you don't need to run intense lighting for eight hours a day like a reef. The fish don't need that much light, but the algae will sure appreciate it.

I like the idea of some Par38's on the tank. I think it would look pretty cool :)

Problem I have is that my emperor angel eats everything, this is the only reason I am upgrading from my 90gallon reef.
I am still going to keep my 90 (I think) but the 350 is planned to be fowlr so t5 might be ideal, would I need total coverage ? The tank is 96 s would 2 48s be preferable, pr would. Get away with 2 36s or 3 24s ? I understand the lights are mainly so I can see the fish.
