I am starting a new 29 gallon saltwater aquarium, which is currently cycling. I have a rena filstar 3 canister filter with biostar biological filtration and various other mechanical filtration, a sponge filter (which was in a pre-cycled tank before this) and 15 lbs rock.
I am purchasing 15 more lbs rock in the next week, and I am thinking that the tank is close to being finished cycling. I added 3.5 mL ammonia to reach 4 ppm level, and the next day it was already down to 0.5 ppm with 2 ppm nitrite level.

    Questions:
Would you recommend keeping the sponge filter once the tank has finished cycling even with the canister filter running?

Any suggestions on good beginner fish/coral?
So far I am thinking 1 false percula clown, 3 blue green chromis and a bulb anemone for the clown. I will probably stay with the 4 fish to start for a few months so I don't overload the tank, but will eventually add more.

    Anything I am missing?

    THANKS!!!

a protein skimmer would be a welcome addition, especially with the canister filter since it takes down the oxygen level in the tank.
a skimmer is a good filter choice for any tank in fact, it will be the best filtration for saltwater, get a good one with good reviews not the cheapest out there.
you can take the sponge filter off if you feel like it, i dont think it does anything that your canister or your live rock doesnt already.

i would wait atleast 6 months before getting a anemone there hard. personally i wouldnt add anymore fish then the 4 you mentioned with out a skimmer

if I get a clownfish and the anenome separately, will the clown ever develop the symbiotic relationship with the anenome or will it just be fine without one?
is there anything I can do to bring up the oxygen level without a protein skimmer?
I do have a airstone disk, doesn't that oxygenate the water?
    Thanks again!

of course you can get them seperately as thats how they arrive at your lfs. and clowns can live very happily with out anemones. clowns do have there own preference toward different anemones, you never know if or when a clownfish will take to anemone, but in my experience most will take to any anemones givin enough time. if you decide toget a anemone later on go big or go home, these nothing worse then watching a big clown lay on a small anemone. like a person trying to sleep on a dog bed

a airstone will oxygenate the water and will make a difference, the reason a skimmer helps out more is because it will removes the surface film on the top of the water that can inhibit gas exchange also it doest behave somewhat like an airstone too.
