    Hello all,

I have recently upgraded from a 34 gallon reef tank to a 55 gallon reef tank, and want to also upgrade my protein skimmer. Currently I have a Red Sea Prism HOB skimmer. It needs constant adjustment and works good sometimes and very poorly at others, which makes it difficult for the existing bacteria to process the fluxuating biological load. If it were not for my sulfur de-nitrator I would be doing a lot of constant water changes.

Does anyone with a similar size reef aquarium have a good recommendation for a better protein skimmer that is more reliable?

My current reef tank equipment consist of a 55gal tank, Marineland 4-stage canister filter, Midwest Aquatic Sulfur De-nitrator, Red Sea Prism Skimmer, two 1000GPH power heads, 1/10 HP Arctic Chiller, and has 30lbs of live rock.

    Joe :)

coralife superskimmers seems to be a solid choice.

I have a 55 and use the Remora HOB skimmer, incredibly easy to set up, just plug and play. Easy to adjust. Works great, I use the Maxi jet 1200 pump

Yep. I have an octopus BH-100F HOB on my 40. Does a great job, and was easy to set-up. Absolutely solid performance, it's been working great since the day I got it. I believe its rated up to 90 gallons, so it would be fine on your 55.

Look at the AquaC Remora and what Pack has (the Octopus BH-100F). They are both solid skimmers and you can't lose with either. If you want something that knocks your socks off, look at the Deltec MC500 (beware of price).

I use a Aqua C HOB on my 40 gallon, and it works great. Easy to use and maintain.

    Thanks everyone,

I'm going to order the Aqua C Remora for my tank and try it out.
