Wow, that is a lot of sand. I take it you also get flow into the standpipe from the top of the tank. I like the sleeve around the standpipe idea.:thumbs_up
I dunno, I think it should work. The flow should yield a low O2 area.
I guess the proof will be NO2 and NO3 levels.
    Pls keep us posted. :)

My ammonia, and nitrites are 0, and my nitrates are barely readable. I'm at the very tale end of the cycle and I think the rest of the nitrates should disappear soon enough. At least I hope so. I have already found that I need just a little flow going down at the top or else I get the dirty floaty stuff. LOL I don't know what to call it. I am trying to come up with a good solution to this, I will post if I figure it out.. I may end up just putting a couple small slits at the top. I'll let you know.

UPDATE: I have turned the sleeves over making the slits at the top. So now I have a regular plenum and and overflow system. I didn't like that junk floating on the surface. The tanks look so much better now. I will just have to just down the flow on the night the eggs are supposed to hatch. I am also going to try to train the clowns to lay on a piece of clay or in a clay pot so I can remove it on the night of hatching, because I have read where it is a ton of work trying to dip the little suckers out of the tank, even with a flashlight. I can't wait for babies. LOL

I have a clownfish breeder in my club he is local too. Like 8+ pairs plus the support tanks. His breeder setup is real simple. A series of 20H with pairs in them. A peice of broken terra cotta pot for a spawing substrate. For filteration he has big balls of Chaeto growing in the tanks. Lit by used PC lights from other club members and then moderate weekly water changes.

Simple and he is always crawling in fry.

Just a thought breeder systems don't have to be high tech.
