    hi guys wanting to start a 30 gallon fish and coral tank planning on getting t5s for plenty of light and as a filter would it be bad if i lined up the back with alot of hang on filters? lol or would that not be good enough filter for everything and how long does the light canopy need to be for a 30 gallon tank is it 38"? also would like a good site to buy a cheap tank at if possible

    you might be able to find a setup on craiglist for a decent price. I personally would recommend getting a "reef ready" tank from the start. Meaning it is drilled and has some type of overflow. It makes it easier especially if you are going to have coral. You can run a sump then and you will have a much healthier system. If you get the dimensions of the tank it will tell you what size light fixture to get. Most 30 gal. tanks are something like 18''x24''. I wouldn't recommend any HOB filters/equipment if you can avoid it because in my experience they are a pain and aren't as efficient as a sump.

    You cant just get a regular filter, generally you would use a protein skimmer. As for a 30 gallon I would suggest getting a sump as well, will make everything a lot easier and give you somewhere to put your skimmer.
