I have a red sea max aquarium .I live in UK which is not renound for hot weather. The max is in a room with ambient temp of 25 c . When the lights come on in the tank the temp slowly rises to 27 - 28 c . Is this sort of temp ok - you read many different opinions !!! Also how can I lower temp slightly without hanging fans over surface . All help appreciated.

Cheers Ricky, if you have a under cabinet sump or a wet/dry, you could put the fans there and no one will see them and cool down the tank. Otherwise you will need a chiller and those are expensive. Or try to place the tank where the a/c duct can hit the tank.

Salutations! Glad to see you found way here Ricky! ;D

Those metric temps always goof me up...:p

If you have high output lights, try rasing them. More water flow, sump(?) would help.

Our weather about same as yours (Silverdale (~Seattle), WA.)

    Good Luck!

Any type of temperature variance will have some profound effect on your livestock...unfortunately! The limiting of this is crucial to the overall success of your tank...
Having said this, I feel that the best route for you to take is the addition of a fan! It is less expensive and does a great job, personally. As lunatik 69 stated nicely, you can hide the fan underneath in the sump(cabinet) concealed underneath to hide it if that is an issue for you!
    Best of luck!

I have a 12 gal nano dx. I had major temp issues.. Reaching above 84 degrees at times. I did a nanotuners heat shield, it did lower my temp by 2 degrees, but instead of the chrome heat shield that was stock, the nanotuners heat shield was dull metal, so long story short I lost light.. Finally I said screw it and put in a 10 gallon sump.. With a cooling fan I can keep my tank at 78.5, without the fan 79.9-80.8. I didn't want to do a sump, but it did solve my problem. Any other questions feel free to ask...

What about modifying the top with a very small fan inserted into the plastic top. Like a small computer fan.

I have the same problem during the summer months, so I wind up running the ac a lot over the summer months....It works, ..probably more expensive then buying a chiller though LOL8)

Thanks for all the ideas. You would have thought a red sea max designed to be a plug and play wouldnt have temp issues. ?? maybe its cos Ive fitted an extra powerhead to the system ???
