if you can find the smart start grab it. it will take care of the ammonia also. As far as the ick goes i would hook up a uv sterilizer. they do help fish fight parasites and beat bacteria related illnesses. i wouldn't be without it. i feel they are especially important when starting up a tank. they save you a lot of grief

I agree with no water changes. IMO I wouldn't have used the old sand. If the person you bought it from didn't clean the sand, then once you disturbed it, it released the ammonia that was stored in it.
When I changed over my tank, I bought new live sand to prevent that from happening. There is nothing you can do but ride it out and let the tank do it's thing.

Try amquil plus or seachem prime.this will make it less stressful on the fish aswell.I would also add bacteria I have had good experience with dr. Tims

the cycle with go faster if you add the bacteria weve been telling..a cycle is you having to wait for your tanks bacteria to beef up..after it beefs up the cycle is usually over..more comes in to play but quick and simple..you just need to add more bacteria..

i agree 100 percent, you didnt brign enough water backa nd only had about 50 percent of it. this is enough to put it back through a cycle. doing a water change will only worsen the problem. also i agree you should get some bacteria supplement to speed up the process. what are the fish in there?
