I did a water change on my 40 Breeder yesterday, as soon as I was done I noticed these slimy strings on my rocks. They look very similar to what my frogspawn puts out during previous water changes in its old tank. Just have never seen so many. The frogspawn in the picture is my small one. There is a larger on the other side of the tank.

This tank has been up and running for 3 weeks. LR was moved from my previous tank. It has a 20L sump/fuge below it. Fuge only has rubble in it as I haven't had nitrates show up yet. Live stock is two true perc. cleaner shrimp and various snails and crabs.

About 3 days before this happened I added two new coral frags. The green SPS in the picture and a LPS frag. I was told to add Phyto-feast twice a week for the new LPS frag (sorry don't know the name). Phyto was given monday per the directions

My concern is today pretty much everything is closed up. Frogspawns aren't out much. Pulsing xenia are closed, and zoas. About the only things that seems unaffected is the dendro and and clowns

Also I have been dealing with micro bubbles this is a plumbing problem, my first sump/fuge and mistakes were made. Not sure if that plays a factor in anything

Hoping someone can guide me on what to do.

    Salinity is 1.025
    Ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 0
    PH 8
    Temp 78
    Reef Crystals salt.
    Thanks
    Sam

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Looks like everything is slimming to me, stressed from the water change.

Would need to know the prior values to know what made the difference though. Reef crystals has a lot of mag in it, and runs at a higher alk when I tested so I imagine it's shock, not much to do, another water change seems like a bad idea since no ammonia, nitrites........... I would run some new carbon, add some O2 if you can and keep testing.

I have small snails on my LR. They are in a hard shell and I can see many of them. One actually grew on one of my acan colonies and took a couple of polyps out. I wonder if the water change stirred up enough debris that they all felt like feeding at once.

Is this a bad thing or will it pass?

Also I forgot to mention I do not have a skimmer, but the water at the top of my sump has been foaming a lot since this started and when I remove it with a fish net it is brown like I see a lot of people remove from their skimmer.

    Thanks for the reply

The snails will not harm anything in general but they can irritate them. I would suggest getting a skimmer as soon as you can, it makes things easier and helps when you have an accident feeding.

Values were still 0 before change, noticed calcium was low so that is what prompted the change since I just added SPS. Only got calcium test Wednesday so don't have a previous. It is a Salifert test. Ammonia Nitrite and Nitrate are an API kit
