I'm still new at all this. I set up my tank Nov 23, 2008. The filter I got with my tank seems to have died. It's a tetra whisper power filter. It's 29gal so I really dont want a huge canister filter. I would prefer a powerfilter that hangs on the back. Anybody have any suggestions? Most threads i've read on here have been about sumps and canisters. I hope in the near future to get a 75gal tank, so I would like to get something that will work for the 29gal i have now, and my soon to come 75gal. oh yeah, I also have a bakpak skimmer made by CPR Aquatic Inc. Thanks! ;D

well, i would DEF put a sump/fuge with the 75 gal. as for the 29, if its just til ya upgrade, get something cheap that will work. if its for the long haul, do a diy sump/fuge. stay away from canisters as they need lots of up keep to keep from being nitrate factories. Unless you do an oversized sump/fuge for the 29, i cant think of anything that would work WELL for both of them.

Aqua Clear 70. Mine served me very well on my smaller tanks.

I used the cpr back pack on my 75 when I started. And it worked well, stick a sock on the out flow and you have your mechanical filter.

I would have to agree with Annie3410, right now could be your planning stage for the 75. Even though it would be overkill for the 29, you will be ready for the 75. Here is a good place to start getting ideas, I honestly didn't find this until recently and it is a very informative site. Wish I found it sooner.... Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums
