I dont have a tank. Cant decide on which one I want to start with.

Large tanks are expensive to operate.

Small tanks are less expensive (I know some will debate this comment) to operate, but more water means more stability to me.

Then, based on the expense I come up with for a 90gal, I start looking at the smaller tanks, and then I start looking at the mods, and before you know it, I'm back to the 90gal.

    Wash, Rinse, Repeat :cheesy:

But, thanks for checking up on me. I'll be sure to post "My New Tank" when I get something going.

That's one of the steps in my cycle of misery.

If I'm going to do a 55, then the 75 and 90 use the same length of lighting, and just a little more power. A 75 is only a few inches higher, and then when you get there, the 90 is only about 6 inches taller than the 55. The 90 is a little more depth from front to back which allows for more aquascaping.

See the vicious circle I run in??

Something I just realized, I have a nano tank thread (which I will keep going) I’m going to set up a 55 gal. And moose wants to set up a 55, 75, or a 90-gallon tank.
So I wont have a nano, and moose wants to set up something lager then a nano.

Now for what I was going to say.
If I were you moose, I would go with the 75. With the 90 being about 25 inches tall, you would need vary powerful MHs. I going to get clamp on MHs for my tank, and I will be able to support anemones. With the 75 only being a few inches taller, you would be able to support just about anything with MHs. Plus you get to hould an extra 25 gallons of water, or put more rock in the tank. Also with a 75 you be able to keep more fish.

I envision my tank to be more reef than fish. That's one of the reasons for exploring a nano as well. I can run several anemone, etc... and just one maroon clown and a wrasse, or maybe just two true percs.

I first started looking at the biocube 29gal, and the redsea 34gal also looked like decent units. I know mods are available, and that was the first thing I thought of when looking at these tanks. How can I get a sump or canister added on without it looking it's hanging off the back. Then I start looking at the larger reef tanks and think "Yea, that's what I really want".

As you can see, it's a tough decision and no easy answers. I guess others would say "buy both".

Since most beginners are advised to have more water as a stable source to prevent mistakes, I tend to lean towards the larger tanks.

    Something to think about.
    This will hopefully help.
Add up how much it will coast to set up, run and if you will be able to do the maintenance. The bigger the tank, the more it takes to keep it running.
Also which do you like the looks of the most. And which will you be able to find room fore.

    Hello.
I am new to the nano world. I have a eclipse system 12 now and have a BioCube 29 gallon
on the way in the mail should be coming shortly. My eclispe has been for the past few months a curing station for my live rock. i have 20 lbs of cured live rock in it now. Once i have my BC up and running i will add the sand and get dry base rock and add my other 20 lbs of live rock to the system. As far as system spec go for the tank. I have stock lighting which for the BC29 is a 50/50 36w 10k and a 36w atinic lighjt with 3 lunar leds. not sure what the specs of how deep the tank is, but i have a sapphire skimmer and a uv sterilizer that fits in the sumps in the back of the tank.
As far as the fish and cleaner crew goes. I have one domino damsel, 1 jewled damsel, yellow watchman golby, and 2 clowns. that will go into the BC29. The clearner crew consist 1 fire shrimp, 3 sand sifting snails, 5 turbo snails, an 5-10 hermitt crabs. i know when i get the bigger tnak i will have to increase my cleaner crew i will add a brittle star an would like to add sometihng that helps keep the sand clean, any ideas on what i can add. I also want to add anenome for the clowns any idea which one will be best withe that stock lighting? And coral frags what will work with the lighting. Will post pictures up as i get the new tank set up
