From what I have learned, my tree also lets me know of any changes in the tank that need attention, although there were many times I thought the thing was dead! What a toughy mine turned out to be! It tells me when not enough light, too warm, too cold and everything else. I check everything when the tree slumps, and when corrected, he rewards me! He just "sleeps" at night, and now can go 4 times his sleepng size when the lights come back on. I feed him "Coral Vital" every few days. It's a German company, because my lfs told me American stuff wasn't regulated as much. (I always buy American if I can though) I came home from a short trip once, and I freaked, as he was laying, purple. I fixed his conditions and he popped right back in a few hours! I'm a newbie, but he is sorta my tank gauge! Hope this helps!

i wouldnt worry too much about a kenya tree unless you see it melting. they are very hardy and can tollerate a wide variety of fluctuations (ie your params).
