    Luna,
It's been almost a week since I made the ghetto fuge, my nitrates are now at 10 from the 20 that it was.

I did do one water change several days ago though, but I will say that I have been doing water changes like crazy in my other tank and struggle to bring nitrates down at all, let alone after one change. The other tank also has more rock therefore there should be more of a water change (since there's less water and I always do 15gal regardless).

Because the nitrates are cut in half after one week, last night I turned my other sump into a fuge, it was a bit more of a challenge and I'm not that happy with it so I'll be picking up a tank to make a real fuge here in the near future. Will post some pics in a bit...

Oh snap! That second sump is the same sump we have, or the same brand maybe a different size. Pro Clear Aquatics, right?

This makes me want to go turn it into a fuge. When the bioload gets up and strong enough, we will probably take out the BB's and have at it. Are you using a light for the fuge?

Yes it is a pro-clear 125 I'm pretty sure. It was pretty hard to turn it into a fuge, unlike the other wet/dry (previous pics) that I transformed. The most annoying part is the plastic cover area, there's not much you can do with that area except put pumps in it, unless you can think of something better. It does have a light but I didn't have it on there yet for the last pic.

This is my other tank, I have two 75gals, they have different wet/drys. I decided to change this one into a sump/fuge last night because of the success of the other tank with fuge. This one was more difficult to add a fuge to, to say the least! Definitely going to make a real fuge for it now because I don't care for it's design.

First tank is going great with the one week old fuge. Pod population has grown tremendously and the cheato is able to grow without being eaten by my foxface or tang.

    Our options are:
-attack the closed in area with a dremel or hot something (hot wire cutter? wood burner?) because I would much rather have a skimmer in the elevated part.
-Replace the whole thing. Same pump, new tank. Maybe even put in some baffles instead of cooking supplies to contain the refuge part.

We're going to wait for a better and stronger bioload before we go down that road..

Hey don't dis my cooking supplies!!! Actually at 10pm I'm not going to start constructing baffles and crap. In my case I don't want to mess with cutting the plexi, nor really constructing with it. I am going to get a 25gal tank and make a glass baffled fuge for it.

What was really cool was when I took the white grate thing out that held the bioballs it had tons of little white sponges on it! It was so cool, I didn't know how to save them so they dried up overnight and died since I had to remove the thing.

I want sponges! :D Have you ever had any problems with your BioBalls? And did you leave the sponge in the Over Flow box after making the fuge? (if you had a sponge in the OF)
