My tank is a 33 gallon. 2 filters on it (cause i don't have a sump or refug.) One is a hang on back style 60gal filter and the other is a 40gal canister filter. I took all of the media out of the filters except some carbon and phosphate remover. Water parameters are all good. I have 2 clowns, 1 firefish and 1 six line wrasse. 5 reef safe hermits, 3 turbo snails and 8 margarita snails. All my corals are still frags but I have 4 frags of zoas (3 different kinds) 2 frags of mushrooms (both different kinds) frag of star polyps, 2 frags of monti caps, 2 frags of monti digi and a frag of clove polyps.
Now, my water will be perfectly clear during the day and when it is time to turn off the lights. When i wake up in the morning and turn on the lights my water is all foggy? What's going on?

its possible the antics of the CUC or the fish, hunting the sand bed during darkness and early hours of the morning , disturbing the sand, and releasing particles from it, which cloud your tank, and then settle down again during the course of the day

I have no sump either and I have a couple of wrasse who do this often and throw up a sand storm for me

one method you can use to help is
using filter floss in the cannister on a temporary basis as this will trap the released debris and you can then remove and throw away

I used to do this weekly, run the floss for 24 hours, one day per week, and after a few weeks the disturbed sand no longer released the small particles that the digging had caused to enter the water column

it will build up again, and when I notice it, I will start the weekend , filter floss in cannister routine again, until I eventually remove majority of these small particles once again

I think Steve is right on the mark. Something is awake and about at night stirring up the sandbed. Next time you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or whatever, take a flashlight and look into the tank. Assuming a lot of sand isn't getting all over your vitals, this is fine and won't hurt anything.
