I have seen tempered tanks shatter as the hole was almost finished.

Tank was tempered. Beer can't hurt.

I have an aqueon tank (30 gallon) and its not tempered.. most aqueon tanks are just plain glass except for the 75, and some of the larger.. look at their website and you can see the pdf saying what tanks are tempered and which are not..
I also drilled mine from gl*******s.com and it took about 30 minutes to get through because I went super slow.. worth it in the end though, dont give up..

Just got home. Got a new tank, beer and some glass cutter oil. Didn't know about the lubrication thing. While at my lfs they mentioned using this stuff as lubricant. Didn't know I was supposed to use lubricant. I thought the water was for that. Going to try it again in a little while. At what speed should I run the drill?

I just used water as a lubricant. Use plumbers putty to make a dam around the drill site to hold the water.

Make sure you put some cardboard or a pile of rags inside the tank to catch the glass disc that will fall when you complete your hole. You don't want to shatter the other side right after you successfully drill a good hole.

If I remember right there are some videos you can watch on the glass holes site. There are lots of Youtube videos you can watch first.

You can also go to walmart and buy a 10 gal tank for $7 to practice on. They actually shatter easily since the glass is so thin on those. So if you can do a cheap 10 gal you should be set.

Drill should be at a low/medium speed. Water works, but you have to stop and refresh it often.

Just put a strip of duct tape on the other side of the glass. That way it doesn't fall at all.
Not only was that an invaluable, priceless tip, it rhymed. Oh man I am good.
I'll be here all night folks. Tips appreciated, just put 'em in the jar!

    Update

Well, a new $51.00 tank, three beers, and some glass cutting lubricant later and I have a beutiful little hole in my tank. I think the lubricant helped and I did not press hard at all, took my time and put duct tape under the hole like Packleader said. Worked out great. I think it was the beer. Thank you all for your help. This is a great site.;)
