i got some rocks to put in, just dry reef rock i really like the scape as well. ill post some pics once the water clears.

it feels very strange not having just the bare essentials as i have sold all mine off in packages mostly. i forgot about a heater a thermometer a net a algae scrubber just stuff like that. haha

I would say judging from the size of the fixture there now you could probably rip the guts out of it and get enough cree's in there from rapid to get some awesome lighting & it would be more than enough to take care of everything you'd want.

i was thinking a par38, i dont really like the color but the concept is so simple and im not very handy with electrical stuff. but if i can keep the fixture intact and on the tank with some good led's that would be great. how would i even go about doing this.

PAR 38 is a definite idea, and alot of people are posting very positive things about them. I personally like small compact things & I'm also a DIY fan so I would probably go the LED route I mentioned.

As far as fitting LED's inside the fixture as is I would say post a couple of shots of the light from the bottom with the lights out so we can see. Maybe get a ruler in the shot as well to give us a sense of measuring space.

I've also seen some pretty creative lighting in some of the fluval edge designs here & out on the net lately (been thinking about an edge tank). I know some of the build threads used pre-built LED's and can maybe offer some ideas.

i was thinking of the fluval edge, but then i saw this tank which was only one gallon less and less than half the price that would be way easier to convert to a reef so i waid what the heck.

ill get some pics of the light as soon as i can. also how much do you think it would be to buy those led's and install them? thanks

I have used regular LED's for years in the past on motorcycles, computers, custom lightings things like that and I can tell you the hardest part about LED's is just to take the plunge into tinkering with them. They are actually very simple as far as design & wiring.

When you get into PAR & PUR, spread, depth and things as they relate to aquariums I am definitely still in the crawl stage, but reading up as I would like to try atleast one of my tanks as LED.

Cree LED's I would ask evolved he is definitely the expert in that area.

So far so good! Any idea on what you'll be keeping in there fish/coral/invert wise?

Maybe they did not reach sexual maturity. Clown gobies will rip sps apart to lay their eggs on, I've seen it happen. I think a clown would be a bit much....
I would go PAR30 instead of PAR38. Such a shallow tank it will just fry everything. BoostLED was keeping SPS halfway down a Solana with just one! Plus the PAR38 will waste more light since it would be lighting such a small area.
