To rid your tank of ich leave it fishless or fallow for 6-8 weeks. Buy your next fish around week 5 and quarantine it with copper for 3 weeks. This will ensure no ich makes it to your display tank.

Quarantine tanks can be as simple as a bare bottom tank with some pvc for hiding. Watch your parameters and add some prime if your ammonia rises. Do frequent water changes. Good luck

i personally dont use them but that does not mean that they are not a valid means of filtration, im sure others have and can help you out in greater detail.

Chances are this was caused by adding to much to fast and by the size of the tank and tang. Hard to say since you haven't answered how quickly you added stuff and i'm just about willing to bet the tang was a blue hippo tang like the one from finding nemo. These are notoriously prone to ich aside from the fact that there simply isn't enough room for him. Swiss had a pretty good write up for you, if you follow his suggestions you should be fine. I have a blue hippo in quarantine right now... he's been in there for just over 3 weeks now and not planning on putting him into the main tank until probably next week. Patience and research is a must with this hobby to be successful. Maybe a little luck too as there are soooo many things that can go wrong, most of which can be avoided with proper care.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

Carbon can more readily absorb toxins and prevent yellowing of the water from DOC and decaying matter. While using a quality carbon is not essential to keeping a reef tank I feel it can play an important part when replaced routinely and used in the proper amounts.

Do not remove all of the ceramic rings at once, you would be removing a large part of your biological filter. Remove them in stages ie: 1/4 at a time.

If you want to avoid symptomatic marine ich one step is to not introduce Tangs. Avoid stocking a tank so quickly, the tank was far too young to introduce Tangs and Butterflies.

Go slower, add only fish appropriate to the size and age of your tank. Butterfly fish are not hardy enough to be placed into a young tank.

Research the use of copper before administration, not all fish can tolerate copper and levels need to be therapeutic and not toxic.

Tangs are ich magnets as they get stressed when they dont have lots of room to swim, they should not be in a tank that small, they shouldnt be in any tank, they are on fish that should be left in the sea

You can try a reef safe ich treatment but i woyld change your carbon before treatment, and then after 2 weeks once treatment is done, this will help reduce the residual medicene. Ich can infect the fishy gills wjich will cause then to die, ich parisite is in almost every tank, the best cure is to reduce stress on fish and then they can resist the parisite

Imo keep up with the carbon, i change mine every 2 weeks, helps absorb toxins, removes odor, and makes your water crystal clear, ohhhya
